How can I exercise my abs without hurting my lower back?

I am doing sit ups properly and the pain is nothing to do with muscles and everything to do with a bony bottom and carpet burn! I’ve been told exercise balls are comfortable, anyone have any experience with them or have any other ideas?

Exercise balls are good just don’t lean too far backward/watch your form. Also- planks are great for your abs and take the pressure off your bony butt.

exercise balls are awesome! plus when your done you can bend all the way back and stretch out your back.. and also while your sitting watching tv you can just sit on it and bounce, it will build your core.. my friend did it a few hours behind her desk job and was very sore the next day on her abs.. and doing the hula hoop (at walmart for 5.00) can work your waist..

nowloss.com has very creative and effective exercises and work out plans. I love exercise balls, they are very effective and cause you to feel more of a burn while working your abs.

Do it on a bed, then. Or do http://exercise.about.com/od/abs/ss/abexercises.htm It’s the most effective ab exercise and doesn’t involve moving your lower back/ass
